Taapsee Pannu names Kangana Ranaut as an inspiring female icon of Bollywood
Taapsee Pannu who is currently basking in the success of her latest release Mission Mangal named Kangana Ranaut as one of the women in Bollywood who inspire her. This came as a surprise considering a recent feud between the two. Kangana does not have an account on Twitter, but her sister Rangoli Chandel’s Twitter account becomes a platform to voice both their opinions. Recently, Rangoli took a dig at the Manmarziyaan actor by calling her the sasti copy of Kangana Ranaut.
While talking to a magazine about female icons in Bollywood who inspire her, Taapsee appreciated some of her colleagues. Appreciating Priyanka Chopra, she said that she had outdone her herself and that is brilliant. Talking about why Kangana inspires her, Taapsee said that it is because she voices what she wants to without bothering. She also said that Anushka inspires her because of her honesty.
The Naam Shabana actress also spoke about her views on feminism. She said that feminism for her means getting equal opportunity. She feels that if she wants to be a good feminist, she would want to contribute to society in such a way that all get an equal opportunity to show their talent. The actress shared the video and tweeted, “Feminism and me.”
On the other hand, reacting to the sasti copy comment, Pannu had said that she will not apologise for her honest opinion. She also said that if she is a copy of a good actress she will take it as a compliment. She also said that since she is not the highest-paid actress like Kangana Ranaut, she can be called as sasti.

"Would like you to see another truth about Kashmir" - Anupam Kher to comedian Hasan Minhaj
Anupam Kher reacted to the recent episode of comedian Hasan Minhaj’s Patriot Act where he spoke about Kashmir and the abrogation of Article 370. Kher requested Minhaj to watch his video where he talks about Kashmiri Pandits and how he had to leave his house in Kashmir 26 years ago.
He said in the video, “I am a Kashmiri Pandit. A believer in Indian values, a peace-loving, and secular, educated, non-violent, law-abiding, patriot. I was thrown out of my house 26 years ago. This is my story. By 1989, terrorists were all over Kashmir and the state government had given up all its responsibilities. There was no administration or law.” He then goes on to talk about the situation that led to the exodus of Kashmir Pandits in 1990. The video is a teaser clip of an interview he had given in 2016.
Sharing the video, Kher wrote, “Dear @hasanminhaj !! I enjoy your act. Feel happy that an India born is capturing great audiences. Saw your latest clip & concern about Kashmir. Would love you to see another truth about #Kashmir. This is in Hindi. Hope you understand it. Thanks.”
Recently, the Indian Government had revoked Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir. Before the announcement was made, the state had been put under communication blackout.
Minhaj shared a clip from his upcoming episode where he is talking about Kashmir and Article 370. “As India celebrates its independence, let’s think about the people who don’t seem to have any right now. #Kashmir,” Hasan wrote alongside the snippet that he tweeted.
“On India’s Independence Day, I’m thinking about the people of Kashmir, who are fighting for their own independence. Kashmir has been this... they’ve been in this custody battle between India and Pakistan. They’ve been this political pawn used by both countries and I really think on this Independence Day, we should think about the people of Kashmir. The eight million-plus people that live there,” he said in the video.

Ranveer, Alia, and Janhvi make up Karan Johar’s dream cast for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai Reboot
As Hindi cinema’s one of the most cult films Kuch Kuch Hota Hai clocked in 20 years, Karan Johar recently held a premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne to celebrate his debut movie. During the audience interaction, he was asked what if he were to remake the film now, who would play Rahul, Anjali, and Tina. Without an ounce of doubt, he said, “On my wishlist would be Ranveer Singh as Rahul. He has that mad intensity as Shah Rukh Khan. Alia Bhatt as Anjali. She has the spunk and Janhvi Kapoor as Tina because she has the poise and balance of the part.”
Narrating about how he cast for the film, he said, “I was ecstatic to meet SRK. Kajol and he had promised that they will do my first film. So I remembering going to meet him and I had no script whatsoever. I only had a scene in my mind. Which I narrated to him. And he bought into my bullshit. I told him if you like this one scene then I will narrate the entire film to you, which was completely a lie. Tabu, Urmila, Aishwarya turned me down and Ash was the only one who was polite to call me back. It took months to cast for Rani’s part after Aditya Chopra recommended me her name.”

Actor-turned-MP Roopa Ganguly’s son was sent to one-day police custody for allegedly crashing his car into the boundary wall of Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Kolkata.
According to reports, Ganguly’s son Akash Muklhipadhyay, 20, was under the influence of alcohol. On August 15, he allegedly rammed his car into a wall, leading to its collapse. Deepika Padukone and Salman Khan unlikely to come together
We’ve all been waiting to see Deepika Padukone team up with Salman Khan for a very long time. It looks like the pairing is not likely to happen in the near or distant future.
There seems to be an unstated hostility between the two, a state of deadlock brought on by Deepika’s refusal to agree with Salman on certain issues.
A close friend of the actress says, “Salman is used to working with heroines who laugh at his jokes and pamper him. Deepika just won’t do that. She has always stood her ground with Salman. Most recently she has hit out at his comment on depression being a luxury.”
On many occasions the Deepika Padukone and Salman Khan pair almost happened and then didn’t. Looks like the status quo won’t change in the future.

Remembering Vidya Sinha
Vidya Sinha, who lit up many of Basu Chatterjee’s rom-coms in the 1970s and 80s, is no more. She breathed here last in a hospital in Mumbai on August 15, the day of independence for our country and a bizarrely opportune time for Vidya to be freed of the burden of living.
The last years were not kind to this pretty quiet dignified actress. The heroines’ roles had died out long ago and Vidya had switched to television where she played matronly roles in serials like Kkavyanjali, Qubool Hai, and Ishq Ka Rang Safed. But even the serials had stopped coming her way now. In 2009 Vidya had filed a police complaint against her second husband Netaji Bhimrao Sulunkhe accusing him of torture and extortion. She finally won a long court battle with her husband in 2011 for maintenance.
Vidya had a short but glorious innings as a leading lady. She was a favourite with two filmmakers B R Chopra and Basu Chatterjee.
With the formidable B R Chopra she did the memorable marital comedy Pati Patni Aur Woh as well as the disastrous love triangles Karm and Mukti (both produced by B R Chopra and directed by Chopra’s son-in-law Raj Tilak).
It was Basu Chatterjee who gave Vidya her fleeting fling with fame. Chatterjee introduced Vidya in the arthouse hit Rajnigandha in 1974 and followed it up with another success Chotisi Baat. It is these two films that she is remembered by to this day. Vidya went on to do other films directed by Basuda, like Tumhare Liye (co-starring her Pati Patni Aur Woh leading man Sanjeev Kumar), and Safed Jhooth. But she did not find much success in cinema after her initial spurt of nominal arthouse stardom with her first two films.
Curiously she worked with the biggest of directors during her brief spell of stardom in the 1970s, including Gulzar (Kitaab, Meera). But somehow her career never took off in a big way.Vidya once confessed she never took her career seriously. The truth is the reverse. Her career never took her seriously.
Famous songs filmed on Vidya Balan
1. 'Rajnigandha Phool Tumhare': Rajniganda
2. 'Na Jaane Kyon Hota Hai Yun Zindagi Ke Saath': Chotisi Baat
3. 'Jaan-E-Man Jaan-E-Man Mere Do Nayan': Chotisi Baat
4. 'Tumhe Dekhti Hoon Toh Lagta Hai Aise': Tumhare Liye
5. 'Thande Thande Pani Se Nahana Chahiye': Pati Patni Aur Woh

Farhan Akhtar takes on Hrithik Roshan yet again
Muscling in with a big-budgeted blockbuster at the last minute is now becoming a norm. Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani did it once earlier to Hrithik Roshan when in January 2017; they released their Shah Rukh Khan starrer Raees alongside Roshan’s Kaabil although the Roshans had announced their film from long before.
Sidhwani and Farhan are doing it again. They are all set to release the Hindi version of Telugu cinema’s most expensive film to date Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy on the same day as Hrithik’s big action starrer War for Yash Raj films.
A source close to War says Ritesh and Farhan’s move is unethical. “Aditya Chopra and Yash Raj Film had announced War for 2nd October, months ago. Suddenly Excel (Farhan and Ritesh’s company) comes up with this dubbed Hindi film. It just upsets everything.”
And to think Farhan and Hrithik are close friends. This is the second time Farhan is doing this to Hrithik.
Looks like the war has just started.
R Madhavan shuts a troll down for her hate comment with absolute class and perfection!
R Madhavan recently posted a picture with his father and son where the trio celebrated Raksha Bandhan, Independence Day, and Avani Avittam. The internet couldn’t stop gushing over the three generations smiling wide as they posed for the picture. While the internet couldn’t stop being in awe of them, there were a certain group of trolls who ended up over-analyzing a picture.
In the background, a holy cross could be spotted next to Lord Ganesha’s idol. Making a mountain out of a molehill, a troll decided to highlight and point out the “problem” in the picture. Making derogatory comments about losing respect for Madhavan, she tried to attack the Rang De Basanti actor but got beautifully shut down by the actor. He posted a note pointing out how he has blessings from all the religions and respects every religion as his own. He also pointed out that he was surprised the troll did not spot the framed picture of Golden Temple in their “sickness”. Take a look at the conversation between them.
Can we all just take a moment and appreciate R Madhavan for being one of the purest souls in the industry? He will next be seen in Rocketry – The Nambi Effect.

Parineeti Chopra says no booze please, despite playing an alcoholic character
Parineeti Chopra is now in London shooting for the Hindi remake of a very dark brooding intense British drama The Girl On The Train for which the marvellous Emily Blunt was nominated for the BAFTA award for the best actress. The role is that of an alcoholic woman who has delusional images of horrible happenings in a home that she sees from a train every day.
Ms Blunt drank her way through the performance. Apparently, she was on alcohol right through the shooting of the film to remain in character. Parineeti has no such ambitions. “I am not drinking, just acting,” she divulges,
This brings us to the actors who have actually been on a high while playing an alcoholic. Highest on the ‘high’ list is the mighty Dilip Kumar who actually drank to look convincing as the sozzled lover in Bimal Roy’s Devdas. The closest we came to this level of (drunken) dedication was Aamir Khan who doesn’t touch a drop of alcohol in real life but drank himself silly for a song where he had to act drunk.
It remains to be seen how convincing Parineeti looks as an alcoholic without being drunk.

Would request the media not to fan these bizarre claims of an unscrupulous man,” the actress had tweeted.

Here’s why Nithya Menen chose the multi-starrer Mission Mangal for Hindi debut
Actress Nithya Menen is a popular face in the Southern film industry. The actress is all set to make her Hindi debut with the multi-starrer Mission Mangal. She will be playing one of the ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) scientists. The film also stars Vidya Balan, Akshay Kumar, Taapsee Pannu, Kirti Kulhari and Sonakshi Sinha.
Nithya said that she chose this film as her debut because she did not want her first Hindi film to be a rom-com, as is the norm. The actress who has featured in several South Indian languages said that she has always chosen unconventional films from the beginning. Menen feels her movie choices are unconventional because she never really wanted to become an actor. She does a film only if she loves the story.
So when the actress decided to enter the Hindi film industry, she was not looking for a conventional rom-com. The OK Kanmani actress believes that the film should be bigger than an actor as that is the only way to make good films. Nithya Menen also said that the film becomes mediocre when the actor becomes bigger than the story and hence creates an imbalance.
Nithya Menen has worked in several movies in the Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu industry. Initially she wanted to become a journalist, but dropped the thought during her time at college. It was tough for her to convince her parents, as she came from a family where creative jobs were not much encouraged.

“I have always told Farhan that wait till all of us are fifty plus”, says Akshaye Khanna about the Dil Chahta Hai sequel
Actor Akshaye Khanna will next be seen in the thriller film Section 375, directed by Ajay Bahl. At the trailer launch of the film, the actor was asked about the sequel of the film Dil Chahta Hai. The cult classic film recently completed 18 years of release. The film was directed by Farhan Akhtar and had Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan along with Akshaye Khanna play the lead characters. The film traces the journey of three friends.
Responding to the question on the sequel of the film, Akshaye Khanna said, “I have always told Farhan that wait till all of us are fifty plus, then make Dil Chahta Hai 2. Then it will be fun. It is no fun if you make it in 10-15 years. Aamir is 50+ and Saif will be there soon. I’ll take a little more time, but then we’ll see.”
Akshaye Khanna will be seen playing the role of a criminal lawyer who has shades of grey. When asked about his role, the Hulchul actor said, “I did the film because I was totally impressed and inspired by Ajay’s (Bahl) writing. I had not come across this kind of writing in the longest time. He seems to have given all his heart and soul to it, and it shows because it is so mature and in-depth.”
Khanna talking about the film said, “When you watch the film, I am sure you will recognise that the director has made this film with a lot of maturity as it is quite nuanced. Whether it is the story or the dialogue, it is very fresh. His take on this particular law, the judicial system and the relationships between the characters is commendable. His extremely high level of writing is what really attracted me to do this film.”
The film also stars Richa Chadha as parallel lead, who also plays a lawyer. Section 375 is scheduled to release on September 13.

Sonam Kapoor to attend a charity dinner to support humans rights organisation in fighting human trafficking.
A fierce advocate of women empowerment, Sonam K Ahuja has often used her celebrity status to bring women's issues to the forefront. Ahead of India's 73rd Independence Day celebrations, the actor has joined hands with YouCanFreeUs, an international human rights organization that fights human trafficking, to attend a charity dinner at Tote On The Turf in Worli tonight. The proceeds from the dinner will go towards the non-profit organization that aims to rescue and rehabilitate trafficked victims from the red-light districts of Mumbai.
Aware of how human trafficking continues to plague our country, the actor says strategic measures need to be taken to curb the social malaise. "We can begin by educating our women, and even men. We need to provide employment opportunities to the victims and offer a means to a livelihood to them."
Kapoor further emphasizes that stars have the ability to influence people at large, and must do their bit for society. "It's important for celebrities who are in a position of power to be able to raise funds for issues that need to be addressed. With power and fame comes responsibility, and I believe we should use that as a catalyst for social change."
Even while she acknowledges that the road ahead is long, Kapoor believes that the dialogue around women's issues has improved since the #MeToo movement hit India last year. "The #MeToo movement was a step in the right direction. It made society less misogynistic, entitled and changed how we think."

YRF’s big-budget action entertainer Shamshera, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vaani Kapoor, is set to be shot in the beautiful and picturesque Ladakh. This will become the first film to be shot in Ladakh after it was proclaimed a Union Territory!
“Shamshera will have the most breath-taking visual experience that audiences have seen on screen and the director (Karan Malhotra) has left no stones unturned to make his film a spectacle! He was certain that he wanted to shoot some of the most crucial portions of the film in Ladakh because it would add to the visual appeal of the film. Ranbir and Vaani have both left Mumbai for this shooting schedule,” says an informer close to the project.
“It is going to be an intense schedule with some stunning visuals needing to be shot. Everything about this project has been kept under wraps and looks like the details of this schedule is known only to the crew that’s filming this portion in Ladakh. The shooting of Shamshera has gone perfectly so far and given that it is looking to transport audiences back to a period, huge sets have been built to recreate an era where Ranbir is pitted against Sanjay Dutt. The Ladakh schedule, however, will have portions of Ranbir and Vaani only,” the source adds.
Shamshera is a high-octane entertainer that is set in the heartland of India. It will have jaw-dropping action sequences and has the big promise of a never seen before Ranbir! The film also stars Sanjay as Ranbir’s arch-enemy and this is definitely the biggest casting coup to hit screens. Sanjay will play the ruthless, merciless villain and his showdown with Ranbir will be something to watch out for as they ferociously go against each other! Vaani plays the role of an exquisitely desirable and sought after travelling performer.
Ashoke Pandit just back from Kashmir says all is well

Pandit lashes out at Anurag Kashyap and the liberals who have been making veiled and not so veiled comments against the government. “These are the hypocrites who don’t want progress and change. They would do anything to pull the nation-builders down. I’ve no patience with such people.”

Earlier, Vivek Agnihotri said, "Since a very long time, I have been wanting to make a film on the Kashmir issue and after the success of The Tashkent files, I have got the confidence that I am matured enough to handle a sensitive subject like this. Kashmiri Pandits Exodus from 1991 is the biggest human tragedy, the biggest Ethnic cleansing, mass exodus of a community with violence. Kashmiri Pandits are homeless in their own country. This is the 7th exodus of Kashmiri pundits from Kashmir – their home. Since the WW2 there hasn’t been such a violent and barbaric ethnic cleansing anywhere in the world. This is India’s holocaust where at midnight the minorities (Hindus) were asked to leave the valley and they were specifically asked to leave behind all their property and women. Children were killed with AK47, women were raped, men were cut with a wood cutting saw. Houses were burnt. India’s most secular region was converted into an Islamic Region controlled with Sharia law. My film is about the sinister politics behind it. Everyone is responsible for such a tragedy. My film is about that.”
The makers plan to release The Kashmir Files in August 2020.

John Abraham starrer Batla House receives minor changes and gets go-ahead from Delhi High Court
John Abraham starrer Batla House, based on the Operation Batla House encounter, received a go-ahead from the Delhi High Court on Tuesday, August 13. The makers revealed that minor changes were ordered by the court and they agreed for the modifications. Justice Vibhu Bakhru passed the consent order.
The statement from John Abraham, Nikkhil Advani, Bhushan Kumar, Madhu Bhojwani and Monisha Advani read, "The makers of Batla House are overwhelmed and grateful to the Delhi High Court and its esteemed officers for viewing the sundry petitions against our film, in favour of releasing the film as planned and unhindered on August 15, 2019, Independence Day. The makers have conceded to the minor changes ordered by the esteemed court and are working tirelessly to have these reflected immediately. The makers also confirm that they are glad to do so to ensure all sentiments and rights of undertrials are not influenced or impacted in any way, as per best efforts. The makers are grateful to all the partners of Batla House for their cooperation and support during this time. We now look forward to releasing our film as intended and hope audiences will enjoy this representation of an event that history should never forget."
A petition was filed and the petitioners had moved to the High Court seeking a stay on the release of the film which tells the tale of 2008 Operation Batla House encounter. Advocate Nitya Ramakrishnan argued, “The film projects Ariz Khan and Shezad Ahman as Criminals. No amount of disclaimer would be justified in this case. Earlier petitions filed against a screening of a movie like Padma vat cannot be correlated with this as none of them had person projected in the film undergoing a trial and that too for Capital Punishment. The film clearly shows the person planting bomb and admitting to being a member of the Indian Mujahedeen. Thus, there is no doubt that the Film would affect a fair trial."
Directed by Nikkhil Advani, John Abraham stars as DCP Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, who spearheaded the Batla House encounter in New Delhi’s Jamia Nagar in 2008. The film is set to release on Independence Day.
WOAH! Rs. 100 cr is the budget for Netflix’s Saif Ali Khan – Nawazuddin Siddiqui show Sacred Games 2
After season 1 of the Saif Ali Khan – Nawazuddin Siddiqui show Sacred Games, audience are waiting with bated breath for the second season to release. While Netflix is set to air the second season on August 15, we came across this bit of news that is sure to grab your attention. As per reports, the streaming giant has shelled out close to Rs. 100 cr on producing the second season of the show.
Revealing the details, an industry insider says that while usually each episode of an original could cost between Rs. 3- 4 cr with a total budget around the vicinity of Rs. 50 cr, Netflix has gone above and beyond for season 2. The reason behind Netflix investing such a huge sum is the fact that while the first season turned out to be a resounding success, the audience appreciation along with the knowledge that season 2 would have to be even bigger and more complex than the first, led the makers to invest so heavily in the show’s production. If that wasn’t enough, it has also been learned that to shoot the second season of Sacred Games, a crew comprising over 3,500 people were employed to shoot for over 100 days. The said shoot was carried out at 112 locations, with 400 minutes of footage being shot.
After hearing this, we guess those of us who managed to get our anxiety for season 2 of Sacred Games have just lost our cool.

Justice Sanjeev Narula in his interim order directed the ISPs to block access to all the URLs and IP addresses of these websites. The court also issued directions to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Ministry of Information Technology to suspend the domain name registration of the websites infringing the copyright of production houses and to issue requisite notifications asking internet and telecom service providers to block such online sites.
The order was issued after a plea was made by the US-based entertainment company Warner Bros. In their plea they stated that these sites were hosting, streaming and making available to public its original content. They all said that the content produced by other production companies like UTV, Star, paramount, Universal and Netflix were being distributed without authorisation.
The court also restrained the websites from "hosting, streaming, reproducing, distributing, making available to the public and/or communicating to the public, or facilitating the same, in any manner, on their websites, through the internet any cinematograph work/content/programme/ show in relation to which plaintiff (Warner Bros) has copyright."

Priyanka Chopra calls out the double standards of the entertainment industry; blames lack of opportunities for women
Global icon and actress Priyanka Chopra recently appeared at the Beautycon event held in Los Angeles, USA. At the event, the actress stressed on the importance of women empowering each other. The actor also emphasized that it is the lack of opportunities for women that leads them to "elbowing each other out to get to that one spot."
The actress who has been in the showbiz for nearly two decades now said, “I've had so many times where I'm doing interviews and people always ask me, 'You're doing a movie with a female actor. Did you guys get along? Were there cat fights?' But when it comes to boys, they say, 'Oh, my gosh. That's a bromance, and everyone works so well.’"
The actress said that the more opportunities women create for each other, the more sisterhood will grow. “We're 50 per cent of the world population, we need to be represented in every field. We need to be empowered by each other, by people who are in positions of power, by putting (women) in positions of power. I realised many, many years ago, the more I champion women in my own small way, maybe I'll be able to create a world, around me at least, where women run the show. Because we kinda do it really well," the actress added.
Priyanka Chopra was in the news recently because of her interaction with a woman at the event who accused her for being a hypocrite as she supported the Indian Government’s decision to bomb Balakot.
