SCOOP: Abhishek Bachchan and Anurag Kashyap to get together for Manmarziyaan sequel?
Abhishek Bachchan's career is on a roll. After a popular digital debut earlier this year in Breathe: Into The Shadows on Amazon Prime Video, Abhishek has two important feature films Kookie Gulati's The Big Bull and Anurag Basu's Ludo coming up. If all goes well, Abhishek would now be moving on to his third significant performance-oriented project in a year. He is all set to encore his part as the gentle turbaned husband to his wild wife (Taapsee Pannu) in Manmarziyaan.
During the making of Manmarziyaan in 2018, Abhishek Bahchan and his director Anurag Kashyap got on like a house on fire. They vowed to come together again for a film called Gulab Jamun featuring Abhishek and his wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. But that project fell through.
It is now being heard that Kashyap is planning a sequel to Manmarziyaan with the same cast of Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal. Abhishek, who recently got widespread critical acclaim for his performance in the webseries Breathe 2, is looking at powerful films with interesting roles.
Besides the quirky Kashyap, Abhishek is in talks with his all-time favourite Mani Ratnam for another film after Guru and Raavan. 2020 looks like the year of Abhishek Bachchan.
Says Abhishek, "I don't think I planned this phase. An actor pours his all into every project. It is not in his hands how the film is eventually received by the audience. You win some you lose some. I suppose I'm winning some right not."

Sidharth Malhotra wraps up Shershaah, the biopic on Captain Vikram Batra
Back in January 2020, Sidharth Malhotra wrapped up the shooting of Shershaah, the biopic on the late Captain Vikram Batra. The film stars Kiara Advani opposite him. But some patchwork was remaining and it got delayed amid the pandemic that led to shut-down of productions during the lockdown. Now, after two days of work, the actor has finally wrapped up the film.
After months of staying in quarantine, Sidharth Malhotra returned to the sets earlier this week after celebrating 8 years since his debut in the film industry. He had two days worth of patchwork shoot remaining. Though Kiara did not join the shoot, some cast members did shoot alongside him at a Mumbai studio.
Apparently, Sidharth Malhotra is playing a double role since Vikram Batra has a twin brother, Vishal. While the film was supposed to release this year, a new release plan will be only announced once the post-production is completed.
For the uninitiated, Vikram Batra was born in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh. At the time of the Kargil War, his unit received orders to move to Kargil. Eighteen days after this, on June 19, 1999, he was ordered to recapture Point 5140 in his first major battle. He defeated the enemy and gave out a triumphant war cry, “Yeh Dil maange more.” While leaving the base, his colleague lost his legs in an explosion. The war hero went back just to save him that’s when he was hit by the enemy’s bullet in his chest. He was martyred on the spot. He was honoured with Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest and most prestigious award for valour, for his actions during the war.
Shershaah is produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions and Shabbir Boxwala production and directed by Vishnuvardhan. The film is set for 2020 release.
Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh to reunite on October 24 for their film shoot
Actors Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh were to resume their film shoot in September. But, Kapoor tested positive for COVID-19 due to which the shooting did not resume and the actress returned to Hyderabad to work on a film. Earlier in October, Arjun returned to the sets and filmed his scenes with Kanwaljit Singh.
Now, Rakul Preet Singh will join Arjun Kapoor for the next schedule on October 24. Though she is filming in Hyderabad, she will be back in Mumbai a day prior to the shoot.
Bollywood Hungama recently reported that the film is titled Sardar & Grandson. A source spilled the beans, “The film is called Sardar & Grandson. The makers of the film feel it’s an apt title considering the film’s plot. Everyone in the unit is happy with this name and is looking forward to completing it and releasing it at the apt time.”
John Abraham and Aditi Rao Hydari play Arjun’s grandparents in the film. Their track is set in 1947, around the time of India’s Independence. Neena Gupta and Kanwaljit Singh will play the present-day versions of John and Aditi.
It’s a love story spanning three-generation, starting in 1947 and continuing till 2020. Directed by Kaashvie Nair, the film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Divya Khosla Kumar, Krishan Kumar (T-Series) along with Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani, Nikkhil Advani (Emmay Entertainment), and John Abraham (JA Entertainment).
Majority of screens and shows, early OTT release: Makers of 83 present these DEMANDS to multiplexes?
The cinema halls have finally resumed operations in many states of India. It is expected that Maharashtra will also follow suit from November 1 following which viewers will get to see new film releases. Sadly, ‘acche din’ are yet to come fully as a tussle is going on between multiplex chain owners and producers. The filmmakers want changes in the pre-Covid arrangement with regards to revenue sharing and OTT release policy. The exhibitors don’t want any revision in the existing arrangement and this had led to a deadlock between both the parties.
In the midst of this, the makers of ’83, have reportedly approached the multiplexes with their list of demands they want fulfilled before their much-awaited sports drama can release. According to a trade source, their four major demands are as follows
- The producers want the VPF (Virtual Print Fee) to be waived off. It is an amount, usually Rs. 20,000 per screen, which is charged by multiplexes to the producers for upgrading their projection system for a better cinematic experience. Many producers believe that charging VPF is no longer necessary as the theatres have recovered the cost. Also, the fact that it’s charged from only the Indian films and not from Hollywood flicks has been a bone of contention between them for a long time. The makers, thus, want exemption from VPF.
- Secondly, they want ’83 to be played in the majority of the screens and in the majority of the shows. Theatres are allowed to run with only 50% occupancy at present and this arrangement might still exist by the time ’83 releases in cinemas. Moreover, it’s an expensive film and hence, the producers feel their demand is justified from the perspective of ROI.
- At present, the producers are required to withhold releasing their films on OTT platform till approximately 8 weeks from the theatrical release. In the past, the makers of Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017) and 1921 (2018) tried to persuade multiplexes to allow them to stream their films early. But the multiplexes remained adamant. One of the first releases of 2020, Shimla Mirchi, directed by Ramesh Sippy, also tried its luck and ultimately, it didn’t release in multiplex chains. In the case of ’83, the producers have asked for a change in this rule. From the existing 60-day exclusivity window, they want it to be changed to four weeks.
- And lastly, they want an NOC from the multiplexes stating that in case their film fails to find sufficient audience in the first two weeks for any reason, then they should be allowed to release ’83 on OTT either under either the pay-per-view model or the normal subscription model.
The source further reveals, “The multiplexes are studying these demands but are not in the mood to agree. The producers feel they are justified in their demands as they have waited for so many months to bring out ’83 in cinemas. They could have opted for a direct digital release but they didn’t. Hence, they feel that they should get preferential treatment. Multiplexes on the other hand argue that they have suffered immensely due to the lockdown and didn’t earn a single paisa all these months. Hence, to arm-twist them when they are in such a deplorable situation is unjustified.”
It may be recollected that the multiplexes had differences of opinion with Vashu Bhagnani on similar issues which forced him to opt for an OTT release of the Varun Dhawan – Sara Ali Khan starrer Coolie No 1.
When contacted, Reliance Entertainment Group CEO Shibashish Sarkar, one of the producers of ’83, said, “We have not yet initiated the discussion. We’ll first finalize the release plans and once that’s confirmed, we’ll approach the multiplexes.” Meanwhile, P V Sunil, MD, Carnival Cinemas also maintained the same stance. He stated, “To my knowledge, the producers haven’t approached us. There has been no such demand from their side. And I hope they don’t put forward any demands either!”
’83, as the name suggests, is based on the Indian Cricket Team’s unbelievable victory in the 1983 Cricket World Cup. Directed by Kabir Khan, it stars Ranveer Singh along with Deepika Padukone, playing his wife. Actors like Tahir Raj Bhasin, Ammy Virk, Saqib Saleem, Hardy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar and others play the rest of the team members.
EXCLUSIVE: Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari to release in cinemas but Zee Studios keeps the OTT option open if talks with multiplexes fail
The theatrical trailer of the comic caper Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari was unveiled two days back and has met with a great response. Starring Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh, the trailer of the film has ‘Releasing this Diwali’ mentioned in the end. In the pre-Covid times, this wouldn’t have been a cause of concern. But in today’s times of films releasing directly to OTT, it has become imperative that if a film is being released in cinemas in the traditional way, then the same should be stressed upon in the publicity material. The makers of Akshay Kumar-starrer Bellbottom mentioned ‘Ready for Cinemas’ in the teaser that was recently unveiled. Meanwhile the new poster of Satyameva Jayate 2 also had the word ‘In Cinemas’ written in bold. With this crucial information missing out in Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari trailer, many in the trade and industry are wondering if the film’s theatrical release is unconfirmed.
When contacted, Shariq Patel, CEO, Zee Studios, exclusively tells Bollywood Hungama, “Before the pandemic broke, no trailer compulsorily wrote ‘in cinemas’, right? The moment I say ‘releasing this Diwali’, it’s understood that it’s coming in cinemas. Why are people assuming that it’s not coming to theatres?”
So will Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari release in theatres? Shariq Patel replies, “Yeah, if theatres open in Maharashtra and Punjab, then we are coming to cinemas. And there are certain terms that we are discussing with the theatre owners. It’s a theatrical release as far as we are concerned.”
When asked about the terms put forward by Zee, Shariq Patel explains, “We want the window between TVOD and theatrical to be reduced to 3 weeks. Internationally too, the rule has changed and it has been reduced to 17 days. If that’s where the world is moving, then the multiplexes here are being foolhardy and are simply delaying the inevitable. We are also asking for higher terms in percentage share.” Interestingly, earlier in the West, the films had to wait for 90 days before getting a release online. For Bollywood films in India, there’s a 50-day window, however.
Shariq Patel then states that he also wants no reduction of shows in the second week. “If I am having a thousand shows on Weekend 1, I don’t want those shows to be reduced to just hundred on Weekend 2. I need an assurance that the same number of shows will be there in the second weekend as well. We need to give viewers time to warm up to the idea of going back to cinemas. It’s no longer the opening weekend game as the market is recovering.”
The producer feels he is justified for asking these terms, “If we are willing to take a risk by releasing a film in cinemas at a time when they are allowed to function at only 50% capacity, then there should be a gesture from the side of the multiplexes to appreciate it. No other filmmaker has announced the release date of its film. But we have. Hence, I hope the multiplexes take the appropriate step which would ultimately bring people back to theatres.”
The multiplexes, reportedly, fear that if the pre-Covid arrangement is changed, it can set a wrong precedent. Shariq Patel however reasons, “We have increasingly said that let everyone agree with certain terms for the next six months only. The fight for VPF and other issues that we have had since years can continue.”
Shariq Patel also makes it clear that god forbid if things don’t go as per their plan, they might have no choice but to release Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari on their online platforms. “We have got the back up of whether we want to go to Zee Plex or Zee5. As an integrated media company, we have enough options to monetize the film. And obviously, monetizing the film in theatres is why we make films, right?,” states the producer.
Earlier this month, Zee Studios released the Ishaan Khatter-Ananya Panday starrer Khaali Peeli on Zee Plex. The makers were keen to release the film on the big screen and it was to be the first film to release when theatres were allowed to reopen on October 15. However, the plan failed. Shariq Patel says, “I was a little disappointed when multiplexes didn’t let Khaali Peeli to be screened, saying that it’s an OTT release. However, it’s not; it’s a pay-per-view release. Even today, if you want to see the film, you have to pay Rs. 300. I don’t understand why multiplexes are treating us at par with an SVOD (Subscription-Video-On-Demand) film. I find it strange but I guess they have got their reasons.”

The Jagganath Puri-directed action film has Ananya Pandey as Vijay’s co-star. I first asked Vijay about the casting coup in his film. The young superstar who is in Europe was completely clues. “I am not at all sure of this (Suniel Shetty’s presence in Fighter). I haven’t been informed.”

Taimur will soon have a sibling to play with. Yes, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan are expecting their second child. The couple is over the moon at the prospect of a new addition to the family. Saif apparently can’t stop fussing over his glowing Beghum.
“Two children were always a part of Kareena and Saif’s plans. Now that Taimur has completed 2, he doesn’t need his mother’s constant attention. This is the right time to bring in another childhood into the house,” a source reveals.
The Khan family is now moving into a new bigger home with more bedrooms and more space for the children to run around in.
We wish Saif and Kareena the very best and hope that Taimur’s sibling would be as big a superstar on social media as Taimur.

Sanjay Dutt beats cancer, celebrates with wife & kids
A heavy load had been removed from Sanjay Dutt’s devoted wife Manayata’s head. Her husband, no stranger to pain and suffering, is apparently cancer-free. The good news is yet to sink in.
“Maanayata has been crying, praying, praying, crying. She has been with him through thick and think, through incarceration and illness. She’s the best thing to have happened to Baba. I don’t know what he would have done without her. When Baba married her—this was his third marriage—we were all sceptical. But she has proven herself to be a completely devoted wife and mother,” says a very close friend of Dutt.
As news of Dutt’s recovery spread across the industry, the congratulatory calls started coming in. Among the first to react was Ranbir Kapoor. A diehard Dutt fan, Ranbir has made it career policy to not work in bio-pics. He made one exception: the Sanjay Dutt pseudo-biopic Sanju.
Right now, Dutt doesn’t want to move out of his wife and children’s range of affection.
The close friend informs, “This brush with mortality has made Baba more domesticated than before. He wants to spend every waking minute with his twins and wife. He will go out to work when he must. Otherwise, Baba’s days of partying and drinking are over.”
In an interview to me some months ago, Sanjay Dutt had spoken of the need to stay healthy. “Staying fit is very important especially, during this time. So eat well, stay healthy and keep exercising. Time flies when I have my family with me virtually and it gives me immense joy to see them happy and dancing everywhere. Family is the greatest treasure than anything else.”

Fox Star Studios asks Ayan Mukerji to cut short the run-time of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's Brahmastra
The industry and audience alike are awaiting the release of the fantasy action adventure, Brahmastra starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in lead along with Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna and Dimple Kapadia in pivotal roles. The film, which went on floors over 2 years back, has been making the headline constantly due to the delay in release date, however some insiders who have seen some clippings can’t stop going gaga over Ayan Mukerji’s visuals, promising a never seen before cinematic experience. Recently, producer Karan Johar’s studio partner, Fox Star Studios, was acquired by international giant, Disney with the focus to bring about a change in the manner they function in India, following a not so promising run with respect to content in the country by Fox Star Studios.
Among the many changes that they are bringing in, Bollywood Hungama has exclusively discovered that the studio has asked Karan Johar and director Ayan Mukerji to restrain the film’s run time around two and a half hours, thereby enabling them to get maximum showcasing in the multiplexes and in the single screens, which would also prove beneficial from return on investment perspective. “Brahmastra is undoubtedly the costliest Hindi film till date and to make sure the returns are on the point, the stakeholders are leaving no stone unturned. While the bound screenplay of Brahmastra and the rough first cut had a run time closer to the 3 hour mark, the studio suggested the team to cut it down by at-least 30 minutes keeping in mind the changing consumption pattern of the audiences, thereby making the film a memorable experience,” a trade source told Bollywood Hungama.
A brief schedule of Brahmastra is expected to commence in November, after which it will finally be a wrap for the magnum opus after almost 190 days of shoot. “It’s more of a song and some talkie scenes which are to be shot in the final schedule of approximately 10 days. The studio is looking to bring Brahmastra during the summer 2021 weekend, and is in no mood to delay it any further. The rough cut is ready with just some visual effect work pending now, which is going on in full swing. The sequences that remain to be shot won’t require too much of post-production, thereby enabling the team to lock the final edit quickly after the wrap and release the film,” the trade source further added, and further told that the priority for Disney is extremely clear and the focus is on the bottom line with expenses to be justified and kept under control. “The constant delay is more like an overhead for the studio.”
Brahmastra is produced by Karan Johar and is being planned as an ambitious trilogy. It marks the reunion of Ranbir with director Ayan after Wake Up Sid and Yeh Jawani Hai Dewani.

Saif Ali Khan quashes rumours about buying back Pataudi Palace from a hotel for Rs. 800 crores
Saif Ali Khan recently flew back to Mumbai from Pataudi in Haryana after a month-long stay there. He had decided to take some time off and spend it with his family including his mother, actor Sharmila Tagore at their ancestral home. He had been enjoying the idyllic life back there, enjoying the quietude of the place and watching his three-year-old, Taimur Ali Khan, feeding squirrels.
In the recent past, rumours have been doing the rounds that the actor has bought back his ancestral palace from Neemrana Group of Hotels and that, his late father, cricketer Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had given the property to the hotel group on lease for Rs. 800 crores. Quashing the conjecture, Saif calls it “a massive exaggeration” and “a miscommunication”. He says, “It’s impossible to put a value to it in monetary terms because emotionally, the property is priceless. Contrary to reports, I did not have to buy it back because I already owned it.”
He holds the Pataudi Palace very close to his heart and is spiritually connected to it. Saif elaborates, “My grandparents and father are buried there, there's security, serenity and a spiritual connection there for me. The land goes back by a few centuries, but the palace that my grandfather built for my grandmother is around a hundred years old. He was the ruling monarch then, but since then, privy purses and titles have been abolished. These are different times, which is why my father leased it out, and Francis (Wacziarg) and Aman (Nath), who ran a hotel in the palace, took good care of the property and were like family. My mother has a cottage there and she was always comfortable.”
After his father’s demise in 2011, Saif wanted to have the palace back in the family. In his signature candour, he says, “So, when I was offered the chance, I wrapped up the lease that was left, paid up, and took possession of our home again. It was a fair financial arrangement. In my teenage years, I was the black sheep, so, it feels nice now to do this for the family and our heritage.”
On the work front, Saif Ali kHAN will soon be jetting off to Dharamshala where he will begin the first schedule of Bhoot Police. He wrapped up the shoot of Bunty Aur Babli 2 last month, has Adipurush lined up for a 2022 release where he will be seen playing a menacing villain and will be essaying an interesting character in Ali Abbas Zafar’s web show.

Rain plays spoilsport during Shefali Shah’s Happy Birthday Mummy Ji shoot
The rains have certainly created havoc in many states and recently, the showers have played spoilsport in the shooting of actress-filmmaker Shefali Shah’s second directorial venture, ‘Happy Birthday Mummyji’. Last week, after announcing her second short film as a director, Shefali Shah was geared up to shoot the movie at a location in Mumbai’s Madh Island but the untimely rain had put the shooting to a halt, much to the dismay of the cast and crew.
Shefali informs, “It was the first day of the shoot and we were anyway hard-pressed for time, it was an ambitious aim to finish the shoot in a short time, with almost half the film outdoors. And as Murphy’s law prevails, we lost like three to four hours because of rain on day one. I freaking out by the end of day one thinking I won’t be able to pull this off. But I had a cracker of a team that took this challenge in their stride and joined me on this insanity. The next day, we worked on an insane different speed, but without compromising on creativity.”
“This was a tougher to shoot than the first short film because it was a very phela hua, the house is a character by itself in the film so everything had to be perfect and show the family that owns it and most importantly it tells a lot about the homemaker. Also, we had a big crew and had to take care of all the safety precautions and follow hygiene protocols, which is a must. All in all, we were rushing like Schumacher and uncompromisingly so,” adds Shefali Shah.
Without divulging many details about the movie, Shefali says, “It’s a story of a woman who is recognized by her relationships, her family, her home… a choice she’s happily made, away from her family, due to the present situation. She is forced into isolation. Here she finds the one person she has stayed away from the most. And here starts an unapologetic love affair, with herself.”

Madhur Bhandarkar to be the next CBFC chief after Prasoon Joshi?
Central Board of Film Certification had been quite the topic of discussion on social media back when Pahlaj Nihalani was the chief. Prasoon Joshi succeeded the chief’s title in August 2017 and had also faced a bit of criticism for chopping scenes from the films. Is Neha Kakkar really getting married? Aditya Narayan denies getting a wedding invitation
Is singer Neha Kakkar really getting married to Rohanpreet Singh? According to reports in a section of the press Ms Kakkar is all set to tie the knot with Singh at a Gurdwara in Punjab on October 26. There is even a wedding card doing the rounds.
However a close friend of the singer is very confused. “Is she really getting married? I haven’t received the so-called wedding invitation. It’s all very strange because she met this guy for the first time when they shot a video together a few weeks ago. Is it possible for someone to meet and marry in a month? Neha is no giddy headed teenager.”
Significantly neither Neha Kakkar nor her alleged groom-to-be has made any statement about the supposed wedding. All I can say is, I do hope it’s actually happening. Otherwise why have the two parties in the supposed wedding alliance slowed rumours and unconfirmed reports to go this far?
Incidentally singer Aditya Narayan is quoted as confirming the wedding. But when I ask him he denies any knowledge of the wedding. “I’ve received no wedding invitation for Neha’s wedding. So where is the question of my attending?” wonders Aditya.
Strange, to say the least.

We will be shooting across Lucknow, including at heritage structures like palaces and colleges,” informs director Milap Zaveri, who is all praise for the Uttar Pradesh government. “Some of the live locations will be completely sealed off, so crowd gazers cannot sneak in. EXCLUSIVE: After Kick 2, Sajid Nadiadwala gets Rajat Arora on board as WRITER of Tiger Shroff's Heropanti 2
Bollywood Hungama recently revealed that the sequel of Tiger Shroff’s Heropanti 2 with Sajid Nadiadwala is in the pre-production stage with a team dedicated to writing and another team working on designing some unbelievable stunts for the action hero. We have now exclusively discovered that the film is being written by one of the most celebrated writers, Rajat Arora, who is known for out and out commercial entertainers like Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Dirty Picture, Kick, and Gabbar is Back.
“Sajid and Rajat are forming a formidable partnership, as the two have spent ample of time together over the last few years trying to crack the script of Salman Khan starrer Kick 2. When Sajid decided to take the Heropanti franchise forward, he had a clear vision to give it a fresh approach, making it diametrically different from the Baaghi franchise, which also features Tiger Shroff,” a source told Bollywood Hungama, adding further that that’s when he decided to get Rajat on board as the writer of the film.
“Rajat’s films are loaded with heroism, but that’s backed by strong drama which gives the character ample of scope for dialogue baazi. He came on board to work on the script of Heropanti 2, thereby leading the trio of Sajid, Tiger and Ahmed Khan (Director) to work with a new set of writer, with a fresher outlook. He is working on the script in priority now as the idea is to take the film on floors by December/January and Sajid is very happy with the way the things are taking the shape,” the source further told us and added that while Baaghi is known for RAW action, this one would be sleek and stylish in the espionage zone presenting Tiger in a different avatar.
Apart from Heropanti 2, Tiger also has the boxing drama, Ganpat with Vikas Bahl, which is slated to go on floors around the same time frame. Even that film is currently in the pre-production stage. Rajat Arora has also written the RX 100 remake, Tadap for Sajid.
