Exclusive: Riteish Deshmukh reveals why it is difficult for actors to voice their opinion
Films play a huge role in our country and members of the film fraternity, in turn, are influential amongst the mass. In view of the current political distress in the country, members of the film fraternity have always been asked to voice their opinion regarding the same. While some have been vocal about their views, many have chosen to not comment. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, actor Riteish Deshmukh speaks about why it is difficult for actors to voice their opinion.
“Many times, many people are being able to voice their opinion easily. Some even think that putting their opinion out will sometimes bring a positive change and some even think their opinion might be taken in a negative context. So, I think every person takes responsibility for what they say and think about the consequences of what they put out. But I respect each of those actors who actually go out there and give their opinion irrespective of how it is being perceived and yes it is not easy,” Riteish said.
However, Riteish said that only film members are expected to comment and people from other influential industries are not asked for an opinion. “But I have noticed that whatever happens, people ask members of the film industry why they are not giving their opinion on the matter. I have never seen them asking the same to cricketers. Nobody asks for their opinion of the top 10 or 15 cricketers. Cricket and Cinema both are like a religion in this country. It is not an equal playing field for everyone. As far as films are concerned, they seek an opinion and when they get an opinion there are two types of reaction- one section who praise the opinion and the other who abuse them. When they do not get an opinion, both these sections abuse celebrities. So, celebrities get abused irrespective of voicing their opinions or not. Still, some actors want to keep their conscious clear and call out the wrong things and appreciate something when they find it good,” he said.
Riteish Deshmukh had recently posted about the brutal gangrape and murder of a 19-year-old girl. “I post against atrocity. There should not be any link between atrocity and religion when you post your opinion. You should fight against atrocity irrespective of the religion,” the actor said.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Riteish Deshmukh is currently gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Baaghi 3
. The film directed by Ahmed Khan also stars Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor.

Riteish Deshmukh hopes to make a film on his father’s life someday; says people have offered him scripts
Riteish Deshmukh is currently gearing up for the release of Ahmed Khan's directorial Baaghi 3. Recently, while interacting with the media, the actor spoke about a film on his late father and former Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.
It is one of those miraculous journeys of a human being. He started off as a sarpanch (head of Gram Sabha) and went on to become Chief Minister of a state. Many a time, people have written scripts about his life and asked me to make a film but it is not easy," said Riteish.
He said that when a subject is close to your heart, you forget objectivity. Just suppose, I make a film on his life and people say I have shown only the good things about him and not shown the other side of his life. If somebody else makes it, then I will say, 'he wasn't like this, he never used to talk like this and certain things never happened in his life'. So, there will always be a difference in opinions when you make films on such subjects."
However, the actor said that he hopes to make a film on father’s life someday, but it is not on the agenda in the near future.
Meanwhile, Baaghi 3 starring Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor will see Riteish Deshmukh play Tiger's elder brother. The third film of the Baaghi franchise is an official remake of the 2012 Tamil blockbuster Vettai. It is scheduled to be theatrically released in India on March 6, 2020.

Riteish Deshmukh says he wanted to work with Nagraj Manjule even before Sairat released
After playing the villain in Marjaavan, Riteish Deshmukh will next be seen playing one of the central characters in the upcoming film Baaghi 3. In the film with Tiger Shroff in the lead, Riteish Deshmukh plays his brother.
Talking to a tabloid, Riteish said that he was surprised when the role came to him. He said that his and Tiger's character's dynamics is like that of a mother and son. In the film, even though he plays the elder brother, Tiger’s character behaves like a mother to him.
While Riteish Deshmukh does not have action sequences in the film, his film on Shivaji Maharaj will see him in a completely different avatar. The actor is currently working on a trilogy on Shivaji Maharaj which will be directed by Nagraj Manjule. Riteish said that he has wanted to work with Nagraj ever since he watched the filmmaker's debut film Fandry. He said that even Manjule wanted to make a film on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Riteish further said that making a film on Shivaji Maharaj is a big responsibility and that they have to be true to real events and respect the great personality of the Maratha king.

Malang director Mohit Suri says adults who get influenced by violence are responsible for the consequences
Filmmaker Mohit Suri's recent release Malang is a fictional story about a man Advait who embarks on a killing spree one Christmas night. In an interview with a news portal, the filmmaker said that he is not interested in making violent films for the sake of it and that there is a reason for violence in Malang.
Talking about where does one draw one's own line when it comes to peddling violence as entertainment, the director said that he is not intellectually superior to tell people how to live their life. He further said that it is an adult film and so it caters to an audience that has the right to choose to marry or choose to elect their Prime Minister and at the same time decide whether they want to take the substance or be violent.
Mohit Suri further said that every story has its own demand. He said that Malang is a thriller talking about killing people overnight and hence he had to show violence. The Aashiqui 2 director said that as an adult you have the choice to watch or not watch the film or decide to act upon it. He said that as an adult if you decide to watch it and get influenced by it and act upon it then you are responsible for the consequences.
Taking the example of the blockbuster Baahubali: The Beginning, Mohit said that the film was violent. He said that in the climax Prabhas is seen walking with the neck of a person. He said that it was overlooked as it was mythology. HE further said that only an elite section has politicized all these things and that the common public does not look at the film in that manner.

Exclusive: “Rana Daggubati is an absolute team player and has a great sense of story,” says Haathi Mere Saathi actress Shriya Pilgaonkar
Shriya Pilgaonkar is popularly known for her role in the Amazon Prime web series Mirzapur, but has shone in several other projects including a Marathi and other Hindi films. The actress has now set foot in the South film industry with the upcoming multi-lingual film Haathi Mere Saathi. The film titled Aranya in Telugu and Kaadan in Tamil has Rana Daggubati in the lead. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Shriya spoke in length about her role in the film and the impact of such a topical subject on the audience.
Shriya who has always wanted to be a part of projects on different platforms and languages, while speaking about landing her first south Indian film said, "When I met the director (Prabhu Solomon) he just showed me a 30-second teaser of what he envisioned for the film. And I instantly knew that I needed to be a part of this film. For me, the whole challenge of doing a trilingual (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) was very exciting. And more than that, the subject is very close to my heart, because firstly, I absolutely love animals, and the film is releasing at a relevant time because conversations around the environment and sustainable development and coexistence are on. This story is inspired by the elephant corridors in Assam and in North East India and this man who is known as the forest man single-handedly fought for the land which belonged to the elephants. That was the inspiration behind Rana’s character in the film. So, the subject of the film interested me immensely and I really liked the part I was playing and it also so I decided to get on board."
Shriya plays the role of a young news reporter named Arundhati. She stands by Bandev (Rana's character) in his fight for the truth even though there are forces in her agency that don't want her to support the truth.
Further talking about working with Rana, Shriya said, “Rana has really done an extremely inspiring job and has physically transformed himself. He is an absolute team player and besides being an actor he has a great overall sense of story. He even helped me with the small nuances of getting the language right. So I really enjoyed working with him.”
The film was extensively shot in various real locations instead of shooting in a studio set up. The film was shot in Thailand, Kerala, and Mumbai.
When asked if such films have the power to bring about a change, the actress said, “It always does. And I feel like when we speak of change, change always need not happen at the biggest level and the impact can be seen even if it sparks a discussion.”
“Yes, cinema is meant for entertainment, as well. The films just mirror society; I think it is going to get people to introspect. It is not preachy, you're not trying to tell people what to do, what not to do. And I feel like cinema as a visual medium has always been very, powerful to affect people, whether positively or negatively. Of course, it depends on the person. I can't say it universally; I can't make a generic statement. But cinema does have that scope of moving people and getting them to introspect," she further said.
Haathi Mere Saathi directed by Prabhu Solomon also stars Pulkit Samrat as the parallel lead. His character is played by Vishnu Vishal in the Telugu and Tamil version. The film is slated to hit the theatres on April 2, 2020.

Mr India 2: After Shekhar Kapur, filmmaker Hansal Mehta questions why directors have no ownership on the film
Ali Abbas Zafar recently announced the film Mr. India and said that he has been working on this dream project silently for quite some time. However, this news has left the director Shekhar Kapur and Sonam Kapoor miffed. When the sequel to the film was announced, Shekhar Kapur who directed the original starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amrish Puri, called him out on Twitter.
Shekhar Kapur in his subsequent tweets wrote about directors and their creative rights. In a tweet, he wrote, "We sit with writers from day one, but are not the writer. Help actors hone performances but are not actors. Develop and create a visual language of film. Slave hours over editing consoles. Directors lead and inspire every aspect of a film and have no creative rights? #MrIndia".
Now, replying to Shekhar, filmmaker Hansal Mehta has also taken to the microblogging site to write, "Absolutely. Directors are held responsible for budget overruns. If a film's eventual success or failure is tied to a director why does s/he have no ownership of the film?"
Shekhar Kapur had earlier claimed that the makers were only using the name to get a big opening at the weekend and also mentioned that they cannot make the film without the permission of the original’s makers. In one of his recent tweet, he had even hinted at taking legal action against the makers of the remake. After Shekhar Kapur, even Sonam Kapoor Ahuja took to her Twitter to address the lack of approval from the makers.

John Abraham’s next production venture is on the life of social entrepreneur, Revathi Roy
John Abraham’s projects have always been to either acknowledge the heroes of the society or to tell an untold story. The actor seems to take a keen interest in making society a better place which should be the priority for most of us. While he’s working on three projects, his next production venture will be based on the life of a social entrepreneur, Revathi Roy. For those unaware, Revathi Roy is the first woman to have ever started an all-female taxi service and the first all-woman last-mile delivery services.
Breaking stereotypes, Revathi has worked for the betterment of the underprivileged women for quite a long time. John Abraham’s JA Entertainment along with Robbie Grewal’s Red Ice Films and Anil Bohra’s Vyka Entertainment have joined hands together for this project based on the book, Who Is Revathi Roy, written by Swathi Lodha. When asked about the project, John said that, "I'm very happy that we are producing this very upbeat story that combines the best of entrepreneurial twists with an extremely dramatic personal life. Revathi's journey is that of a vivacious, funny, full of life, spirited woman who despite all odds has risen like a phoenix and has been continuously working towards empowering underprivileged women. It’s a story that we just HAD to tell and who better to do that with than Robbie."
While the film is still in the pre-production stage, Revathi Roy said that, "I'm very happy that John, Robbie and Anil have come together to tell a story which is not just my own but of every woman who was given a chance. Women are born fighters and an opportunity given to them never goes waste. All we need to provide is an ecosystem for them to flourish. In a small way, that is what my team and I have done."
Apart from this, John Abraham will next be seen in Attack, Mumbai Saga, and Satyameva Jayate 2.

Mr. India 2: Shekhar Kapur hints at taking legal action against the makers of the remake
It was only last week that Ali Abbas Zafar announced Mr. India 2 and has been working on this dream project silently for quite some time. The film is most likely to be titled as Mr. India 2, with a fresh take on the classic. However, this news has left the director Shekhar Kapur and Sonam Kapoor miffed. When the sequel to the film was announced, Shekhar Kapur who directed the original starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amrish Puri, called him out on Twitter.
Now, the filmmaker in one of his tweets hinted that he may take legal action against the makers of the remake. Director Kunal Kohli on Saturday took to Twitter and wrote, "Javed Akhtar won a hard-fought battle for the rights of lyricists and writers. It's time we did the same?"
Responding to Kohli's tweet, Shekhar tweeted, "Yes. It's time to test this legally... Let's do it."
Shekhar Kapur had earlier claimed that the makers were only using the name to get a big opening at the weekend and also mentioned that they cannot make the film without the permission of the original’s makers. After Shekhar Kapur, even Sonam Kapoor Ahuja took to her Twitter to address the lack of approval from the makers.
Shekhar also found it disrespectful for the new makers for not giving him the "creative rights" for the remake. "We sit with writers from day one but are not the writers. Help actors hone performances but are not actors. Develop and create a visual language of film. Slave hours over editing consoles. Directors lead and inspire every aspect of a film and have no creative rights? #MrIndia," Shekhar tweeted.

On Sunday, the organizers of the festival issued an official statement on their Instagram handle, slamming the actress for spreading fake news.
The organizers termed Mahira’s act as immoral and distasteful attempt to gain publicity’. The statement states that though she was present at the event, no such award was given. Income Tax Department surveys Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and other banners regarding taxation of extra artistes
We are familiar to the noticeable presence of extras in literally every Bollywood film. The people who form the crowd on streets, in weddings, at a restaurant or almost anywhere else earn a wage by making a minuscule appearance on the big screen. However, it seems to have struck the Income Tax Department's attention of late.
As reported by a leading daily, the IT Department suspects that some leading production houses of the industry are not levying enough tax while paying the extras. Last week, it also conducted a survey on seven of them, including Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akthar's Excel Entertainment, Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films and Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms.
While the extras now pay a TDS (Tax Deducted At Source) of 2% on their wage, they should supposedly pay 10% TDS. Notably, the stars of the films as well as other actors also pay 10% TDS, since they are all 'skilled artistes'.
Will the taxation for extras be reformed now? A source informed the daily that no final decision is yet taken.

Split Wide Open! Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor are not on same page for Mr. India
The Mr. India franchise, that Zee Studios has announced along with their accomplice director Ali Abbas Zafar, seems to be causing quite a rift among those who worked closely to create the original classic feature film Mr. India in 1987.
While Mr. India director Shekhar Kapur has spoken against the proposed project by Zee Studios and Ali Abbas Zafar, Javed Akhtar has pulled up Shekhar Kapur for the latter’s seeming hypocrisy. And now it seems Mr. India’s producer Boney Kapoor and the film leading man Boney’s brother Anil Kapoor are not on the same page regarding the new version of Mr. India.
Sources say, "Boney gave his approval to the proposed project without taking his brother Anil into confidence."
Says the informed source, “Technically, Boney is in the right. He’s the producer of Mr. India. He doesn’t need to consult anyone before giving his approval. Boney shares a close working relationship with the Zee Studios. So he allowed them to go ahead (with the new Mr. India). But Anil, on hearing of the project, was aghast. And he’s right in being upset. He is not only the leading man of Mr. India but also the producer’s brother.”
With Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor coming out against the proposed project, the battle lines are clearly drawn. Let’s see how the matter is resolved.

He will reportedly have five releases next year.
Meanwhile, Sooryavanshi starring Akshay Kumar and directed by Rohit Shetty is scheduled for May 27 release. But, if reports are anything to go by, it might hit the screens two days prior to the scheduled release. Laxmmi Bomb, on the other hand, will see Akshay as a transgender and is releasing on Eid this year.

SCOOP: Reliance to help Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai get MAXIMUM screens during Eid 2020 clash?
This Eid is going to see the mother of all clashes as three biggies are scheduled to release on the holy festival. Salman Khan, as always, was the first to grab this date, for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Inshallah in which he was to be seen with Alia Bhatt. When that film got scrapped, he announced Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai and assured it’ll release on the same date. Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar too decided to bring his film Laxmmi Bomb on May 22, the day of Eid. Finally, the Hollywood actioner Fast & Furious 9 also jumped in this race and will also release on the same day.
Obviously, trade and industry are already worried about this three-way clash. They were some problems in screen distribution even during Diwali 2019 when one biggie (Housefull 4) and two small films (Saand Ki Aankh and Made In China) came together. In the case of Eid 2020, there are three big films that will vie for screen space. Hence, exhibitors are already dreading the fight that the distributors of these films will have in order to get maximum theatres and screens for their respective films.
In the midst of all this, the makers of Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai have already started talks with Reliance Entertainment. They want this company to distribute their Eid dhamaka. The modalities are being worked out. Reliance too seems interested in this deal as it’ll be done on a commission basis. Hence, it’ll be a win-win situation for both parties. A clearer picture will emerge in a few days as to whether this deal gets materialized.
The decision of Salman Khan and his team to approach Reliance Entertainment is quite smart, says a source close to the project. He says, “Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai’s producers want Reliance to sell their film along with Reliance’s other two films, Sooryavanshi and ’83, as a package to exhibitors. Reliance will ask theatre owners to screen Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai in their properties if they want the other two films. And obviously, which exhibitor would not want Sooryavanshi and ’83 to play in their theatre. After all, both films are potential blockbusters. Sooryavanshi stars Akshay Kumar, is directed by Rohit Shetty, and is a part of the exciting cop universe comprising of Simmba and Singham. ’83 meanwhile is based on India’s stunning victory in the 1983 World Cup. It has created excitement since its inception and the casting of Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev has added to the buzz. Hence, if this deal comes through, then Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai will be at an advantage and might get most number of screens and single screen theatres.”
Laxmmi Bomb, meanwhile, is being released by Fox Star Studios. A trade source says, “Even Fox will try to sell Laxmmi Bomb and Baaghi 3 together. There have been no super-hits since Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Baaghi 3 can break this trend. It looks massy and moreover, this franchise and Tiger Shroff have a lot of takers. Hence, even Fox can fight it out so that even they get enough screens in Eid.” Baaghi 3 releases on March 6.
Besides Salman Khan, Radhe - Your Most Wanted Bhai features Disha Patani, Randeep Hooda and Jackie Shroff. It is directed by Prabhu Dheva.
Editor's Note: Post going live with this story, the producers of the Salman Khan starrer Radhe got in touch with us clearing the air. As per their statement, Yash Raj Films will be distributing the Prabhu Dheva directorial in India and overseas as well.

SCOOP: Bhumi Pednekar’s next to be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali

With the coming year being just as exciting, Bhumi Pednekar will be seen in Durgavati and now, we hear that she has also signed on another project for the year. With her cameos in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Bhoot: Part One – The Haunted Ship, Bhumi Pednekar has been impressing her fans with every performance.
Her next project is said to be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and will be helmed by a debutant director. While all the other details have been kept under wraps regarding this project, a source reveals, “Bhumi Pednekar has been signed for this yet-untitled project that will be produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The makers are yet to finalize the rest of the cast.”
Well, Bhumi Pednekar is definitely going big with this one.

Ayushmann Khurrana REACTS to President Donald Trump’s praise for Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan
Hindi cinema’s modern-day hero Ayushmann Khurrana is soaring as India’s first gay romantic comedy Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan released on Friday. The actor has been receiving positive feedback from the netizens. Meanwhile, a surprising reaction came from Donald Trump, President Of The United States Of America.
Human rights campaigner and LGBTQ+ activist Peter Tatchell shared a tweet on Friday praised Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “A new #Bollywood rom-com featuring a gay romance is hoping to win over older people, following the decriminalisation of homosexuality. Hurrah!”
Trump responded to his tweet and wrote, “Great!”
When asked Ayushmann Khurrana about Trump’s reaction, he said it was surprising. Speaking at Hindustan’s Shikhar Samagam 2020, he said “It was a very surprising tweet. I want him to work for LGBTQi rights in his country. I hope the LGBTQi community in US gets his support. He should definitely watch our film, it’s very important for him.”
Ayushmann’s comment is interesting as well as extremely laudable as it seems he is well-aware of Trump administration’s stance towards LGBT+ rights. The government has been drawing fire from several quarters for having curtailed the rights of transgender people - including banning them from military service. His govt has also reportedly urged the Supreme Court to ensure gay employees are not protected under the Civil Rights Act.
He further added, “Doing it through comedy is important because it's a big taboo in small cities. The audience will come for entertainment and will take home a message.” He added that he has made his career out of experiments and said, “I will be over the day I stop taking risks.”
Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, directed by Hitesh Kewalya, stars Jitendra Kumar, Maanvi Gaagroo, Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Pankhuri Awasthy among others.
SCOOP: Salman Khan offered Saare Jahaan Se Achcha by Siddharth Roy Kapur!
In Hollywood, there exists a concept named ‘Black List’ that comprises of most liked scripts which have not been transformed into celluloid. Some famous films and classics like Argo, American Hustle, Juno, The King's Speech, Slumdog Millionaire, Spotlight, The Revenant, The Descendants etc were once a part of this reputed list. If a similar concept starts in Bollywood, the film that would be first mentioned will be Saare Jahaan Se Achcha. It is based on an incredible true story but for various reasons, most actors have turned it down.
However, if reports are to be believed, then Siddharth Roy Kapur, who owns the rights to the script of this film, has now approached none other than superstar Salman Khan. A source reveals, “A few weeks ago, Siddharth Roy Kapur met Salman Khan to discuss the said project. The producer is confident that Salman can pull off this role. It’s a mammoth project. For such an expensive film, they are looking for a superstar and who better than Salman.”
The source adds, “Salman Khan has some dates from March. Hence, he decided to hear out the narration of Saare Jahaan Se Achcha. He has liked the concept but he hasn’t given his nod.”
Saare Jahaan Se Achcha is based on the life of Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian astronaut to fly into space. He is the first and the only Indian citizen to travel in space till date, when he flew aboard the Soviet rocket Soyuz T-11 in 1984. He created history when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi asked him how India looked from outer space and he famously replied, “Saare Jahaan Se Achcha”. The film will be directed by reputed ad filmmaker Mahesh Mathai, who has also directed the 1999 acclaimed film Bhopal Express. Surprisingly, the film has been offered to numerous actors like Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Vicky Kaushal and Ranbir Kapoor. But all of them walked out. Many in the industry are speculating that the project is jinxed and whether the script is weak.
“Aisa kuch nahi hai,” retorts the source and signs off by saying, “No actor refused the film because they didn’t like the screenplay. They were other reasons. And there have been many great films which took a long time in getting the cast. Saare Jahaan Se Achcha will be something to watch out for, not just for its VFX and space element, but also for its emotional quotient. Wait and watch!”

Thappad: Taapsee Pannu urges to add disclaimers to films showcasing domestic violence
From the trailer of the film with the tag line, “Thappad- Bas itni si baat?”, which created wide banter as well as tremors that indicate the serious impact to a slap to the multi-city ongoing screenings, Thappad is being hailed as the most important film of the year. The makers of the film have been dropping message-driven promo units to garner the right conversations.
Taapsee Pannu and the makers have now extended their support to a Change.org petition, asking for disclaimers to be added in films that showcase on-screen domestic violence scenes. To deliver this striking message, Taapsee is seen in a concept video questioning viewers - why don’t we have a disclaimer for ‘Thappad’ on-screen when we have one for alcohol consumption, smoking and animal cruelty? Change.org India and the makers of Thappad have come together to urge the censor board to make it mandatory for films that showcase any kind of domestic violence in their films to carry a disclaimer.
Taapsee Pannu took to her Twitter handle and shared the video.
Nida Hasan, Country Director, Change.org India, “When most of our films are filled with misogynistic portrayals of women, films like Thappad trigger our collective conscience. Taapsee’s support for Mahika’s petition is a powerful statement for the Indian film industry to take responsibility for the right messaging on domestic violence that affects millions of women in our country every day.”
The actress urges the viewers to sign a petition after the entire video takes stock of everything that is shown as a disclaimer for a film, much in a conversation between the two lead actors. Definitely, the makers are coming up with unique takes with each video. Not only the earlier asset got a strike for being the most reported, as was asked by Taapsee from the audience but even this video is set to become a movement with its impactful message.
The much-awaited film, Thappad is being produced by Anubhav Sushila Sinha and Bhushan Sudesh Kumar, and directed by Anubhav Sushila Sinha, starring Taapsee Pannu is set to release on 28th February.
Chitrangda Singh consults a language coach to learn Bengali for Bob Biswas
Chitrangda Singh's Bob Biswas has been in the news ever since it was announced and its first schedule hit the floors in Kolkata. Known for sparing no effort to ease into the character, the gorgeous actress took to learning Bengali for the film that marked her much-awaited homecoming.
No details of Singh's role in the crime thriller have been out yet except that her character is that of a Bengali native. A source informs that knowing the language was a prerequisite for the actress and she resolved to go all out for the portrayal of her character.
A source says, "Chitrangda had been learning Bengali from a friend in Kolkata and also consulted a professional language coach to master the cadences. She had always loved the language and that sped up the learning process for her."
Chitrangda says, "I was super excited when I was told that I had to learn Bengali for the film. It is one of my favourite languages. Earlier, I understood Bangla a little bit, but I did get the chance to learn it. I'm so happy that Bob Biswas became the reason for me to learn Bengali."
Fans of the actress have a lot to watch out for as the Kahaani spin-off tells the backstory of Bollywood's rare assassin and has her essaying a role she has never tried before. Singh's character in the forthcoming Red Chillies and Sujoy Ghosh production is still a secret. And evidently, there is quite some positive anticipation surrounding the actress's role in the Diya Ghosh directorial.
Along with the Kolkata schedule of Bob Biswas, Chitrangda is also gearing up for her upcoming production, Soorma 2.

Shah Rukh Khan does a test shoot for Mogambo with Ranveer Singh for Ali Abbas Zafar’s Mr. India 2?
It’s only been a few days since Mr. India 2 has been officially announced. Bollywood Hungama, on February 16, reported that Ali Abbas Zafar is working on Mr. India 2. And that Ranveer Singh was in talks to lead the film. This was confirmed on February 17 by Zee Studios and the director as he informed us that they are working on a trilogy. Ali wrote on Twitter, "Excited to partner with @ZeeStudios_ for an epic trilogy #MrIndia! It is a huge responsibility to carry forward an iconic character loved by everyone. Currently, working on the script, no actor has been locked till now. Once we lock the first draft of the script, casting begins!"
Soon, reports suggested that Shah Rukh Khan has been approached for the role of Mogambo, the iconic villain which was essayed by late Amrish Puri. Ranveer Singh is reportedly set to play Arun Verma aka Mr. India that was earlier played by Anil Kapoor. If the latest reports are anything to go by, SRK and Ranveer came face to face during the test shoot promo which will be heavy on VFX by Red Chillies Entertainment. SRK will be donning costume rich in texture whereas Ranveer will sport simple clothes but the hat and blazer remain as it became a trademark.
Since the film is announced, the original makers and team do not seem to be happy with the way this was shaped. Shekhar Kapur, the director of the film, slammed the makers for not consulting him before the project was announced. "No one has even asked me or mentioned to me about this film called Mr. India 2. I can only guess that they using the title to get a big weekend. For they cannot use the characters/story without permission from the original creators of the film,” he wrote on Twitter earlier this week.
Even Sonam Kapoor is miffed that her father Anil Kapoor and Shekhar weren’t informed about the development of the project that has been very dear to them. She took to social media to share her displeasure over the project and wrote, “A lot of people have been asking me about the MR. India remake. Honestly my father didn’t even know the film was being remade, we found out about it through social media when @aliabbaszafar tweeted. It’s quite disrespectful and underhanded if it is true since no one bothered to consult my father or Shekhar uncle, two people who played a major role in making the film what it was and is. It’s sad because that was a film made with heart and hard work and is very sentimental to my father, beyond commerce and announcements, it’s a part of his legacy. consult my father or Shekhar uncle, two people who played a major role in making the film what it was and is. It’s sad because that was a film made with heart and hard work and is very sentimental to my father, beyond commerce and announcements, it’s a part of his legacy.”
Meanwhile, Zee Studios is looking at festive release for Mr. India 2 in 2022.

In a statement revealed to Variety, Kevin Reilly, chief content officer at HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT, and truTV said, "Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire ‘Friends’ library. I became aware of ‘Friends’ when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation. It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”
The report further states that each cast member will receive $ 2.5 million dollars for being a part of the HBO special.
Sonam Kapoor Ahuja MIFFED with the makers of MR. INDIA 2 for not even informing Anil Kapoor about the remake
It was only last week that Ali Abbas Zafar announced Mr. India 2 and has been working on this dream project silently for quite some time. The film is most likely to be titled as Mr. India 2, with a fresh take on the classic. The film will also see a festival release in 2022 and this news has left Shekhar Kapur and Sonam Kapoor Ahuja quite upset. When Ali Abbas Zafar announced the trilogy in association with Zee Studios, Shekhar Kapur, who has directed the original starring Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amrish Puri, called him out on Twitter.
Shekhar Kapur claimed that the makers were only using the name to get a big opening at the weekend and also mentioned that they cannot make the film without the permission of the original’s makers. After Shekhar Kapur, even Sonam Kapoor Ahuja took to her Twitter to address the lack of approval from the makers.
Sonam revealed that Anil Kapoor was not even aware that such a project was in the making. He was not even informed about the project. She tweeted, "A lot of people have been asking me about the MR. India remake. Honestly my father didn’t even know the film was being remade, we found out about it through social media when @aliabbaszafar tweeted. It’s quite disrespectful and underhanded if it is true, since no one bothered to.'
She further posted a message to the creators of Mr. India 2 stating, “consult my father or Shekhar uncle, two people who played a major role in making the film what it was and is. It’s sad because that was a film made with heart and hard work and is very sentimental to my father, beyond commerce and announcements, it’s a part of his legacy.”
Harshvardhan Kapoor also seemed upset about it and commented on the same saying that filmmaking is an art form and the sensitivity towards the artists is diminishing as everything has become about money and greed.
Take a look at her tweet and statement, along with Harshvardhan Kapoor’s comment.

It's quite clear that just like original director Shekhar Kapur, even lead actor Anil Kapoor of the original Mr. India is quite miffed with the way the remake has been planned without their blessings. It is to be seen how the makers of the remake handle the situation from here.

Surbhi Chandna and Gaurav Chopra starrer Sanjivani to go off-air; the show might come back with a fresh season
The show Sanjivani has been loved this entire season especially Surbhi Chandna’s impeccable acting skills and her chemistry with both the co-stars, Namit Khanna and Gaurav Chopra, has been highly appreciated by the audiences. The ongoing season will end with a lovely surprise and two new cameos. It is not the end for Sanjivani - on prime time, as made to believe. Not only are there talks for a brand new season but this show is also planned end with a few surprises and two cameos thrown in.
This information was divulged by the serial's creative producer and director Siddharth P. Malhotra. With regard to the ongoing season, Malhotra added that the audience loved the new pair - Gaurav and Surbhi. "In fact, there’s a fan divide and while some love #Navisha, others like #Sidisha and this division of fans would not have happened had the audience not likes Gaurav and Surbhi."
When asked whether a change of time slot played a role in the serial going off-air, Malhotra replied in the negative. "No, no, the change of time slot wasn’t the reason at all. The channel took the call which is always the case and there were some branding issues apparently."
While we’re really disheartened with the news of the show going off-air, we can’t wait to see what more is in store for the audience.

Radhika Madan turns vegan for Angrezi Medium
After learning martial arts for her character in Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (2019) and gaining 12 kgs for Pataakha (2018), Radhika Madan had to change her body-type from a martial artist to a schoolgirl. Changed her nutrition, workout regime and actually turned vegan in the process!
Radhika, otherwise a foodie — who also believes in staying fit, reveals that she had only a month to get into the character. She says, “I was eating read meat for Pataakha and had a lot of fat on my body when I went in to audition for Angrezi Medium. Dinesh Vijan (producer) and Homi Adajania (director) loved the screen test. It was their conviction that helped me make up my mind and take the challenge of getting into shape.”
The actor says that it was tough to follow a strict regime. “I had to look like a 17-year-old college student so I couldn’t gain muscle. I had to show some amount of baby fat. So, I could only do yoga and cardio to look lean. I also decided to turn vegan, which I did and it really helped me get into the skin of the character. I had to follow a strict diet where I couldn’t even eat an extra grape. It was all measured. Apart from that I was working out twice a day, but I feel the hard work has really paid off,” she says.
She adds that following the regime helped her get into the skin of the character. “My body language changed completely. I actually thought that I was going back to college. Also, many people don’t believe that food plays an important part in the way you think. I turned vegan and it just makes your mindset completely unadulterated and gives you a better perspective of things,” concludes the actor.
Jio Studios and Prem Vijan present Dinesh Vijan's Angrezi Medium, a Maddock Films production, directed by Homi Adajania, releases on March 13th, 2020.
Amyra Dastur bags a role in Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's next production venture, Dongri To Dubai
After Amyra Dastur was announced as a prominent part of Ali Abbas Zafar's next web series on Amazon Prime, starring Saif Ali Khan, Amyra has bagged yet another biggie. She will be seen playing an important role in Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani's next production venture - Dongri To Dubai being directed by Shujaat Saudagar (Rock On 2).
Ask Amyra how it all came about and she smiles confirming the development, "This came about as most offers do. I got a call from a casting director asking me to come in for an audition. They didn't tell me what it was about, who was going to be in it or who was backing it. They just gave me a character brief and dialogues to memorize. I did my best and after a few days, I was called back for a second audition because they wanted to check if I could do the scenes in a different way to show my versatility. Everyone seemed happy with my performance and Shujaat called me to the office for a narration. I loved what I heard and then requested the team to send me all the episodes to read before I gave them an official confirmation."
The digital series is adapted from Hussain Zaidi's book 'Dongri to Dubai: Six Decades of the Mumbai Mafia'. The show revolves around the life of Dawood Ibrahim but also captures his early life, the big mob bosses at the time and his gang. Details about Amyra's role have been kept under wraps but we hear she plays a Parsi girl in the series.
Amyra says it's the 'content' and character that appealed to her. "For me, it's all about the script and the set-up. This show is adapted from a gripping book that I’ve read and loved! The power-crazed gangsters and world of crime are what interested me the most.”, she further continues.
"It's set in the 70s and 80s so you get to see a different side to Mumbai, the birth of Mumbai in a way. I have never done a period based project and the fact that we get to go back in time with this one was magic to my ears. The fact the Excel Entertainment is producing it was the cherry on the cake.” Dongri To Dubai will have a ten-episode season one.
With the digital renaissance becoming the order of the day, several big actors are jumping on the web bandwagon. Amyra reasons, "At the end of the day, Web or OTT has a much further reach than anything today. It doesn't matter when or where you watch it because it's going to be there forever. That's the beauty of the web."
Apart from her Amazon Prime Video projects, Amyra will be seen in the T-Series' Koi Jaane Na co-starring Kunal Kapoor (Rang De Basanti).

Exclusive: Karanvir Bohra speaks about mixing spirituality and religion in his upcoming web series Yatra
Celebrity couple Karanvir Bohra and Teejay Sidhu are currently working on a web series which will be conceptualized and created by them. The series titled Yatra will see the couple along with their twins visit spiritual places in India. However, Karanvir says this show will not be preachy, but looks at making the show child-friendly and explores spiritual places in India in a way never seen before. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Karanvir Bohra spoke about his upcoming show Yatra and how it stands apart from other travel shows on the internet.
Talking about why they thought of a travel show for their first web series, Karanvir said, "We (Karanvir and Teejay) have been thinking of this idea since the time our babies were one year old. But that time it was too difficult to handle the babies as well as the travel show. So we were just waiting for our children to start understanding people and places. They just started communicating and they have too many questions. So, we just realised this is just the right time to start a travel show with the babies called Yatra. Everybody travels, but what we thought was how can we incorporate value systems, spirituality, religion and fun.”
Karanvir further went on to speak about how his childhood experiences has influenced to take up this show. "I remember when I was a kid, my mom used to take me and my sister to Jodhpur, that is where I am from. Every summer my grandmother and my uncle would organise spiritual sojourns. So I have visited all the Jyotirlingas, all the chardhams, and not only that, most of the mosques, churches and gurudwaras. They would take us everywhere and that is why we are so liberal in our thinking also. It is a beautiful thing that I get to relive all these things with my children," he said.
Karanvir will be taking his three-year-old twins on this journey. On asking, whether they have been prepping the kids to face the camera, he said, "We are not prepping them at all. They are very camera friendly. They are very people friendly. Basically, I myself am so active on social media that my camera is always on them. I want to capture their moments. I catch their expression whenever they see me after so long, so they are okay with it all. And Teejay and my thing is not about making them camera friendly. We are going to be open parents. Whatever they want to pick up we will give them all the platforms they need."
Talking further about the show, Karanvir said, "We will mix spirituality and religion and make it fun for the kids to watch. We don't want to make it too preachy. I don't want it to be heavy. We will also be covering and exploring the fun activities of those places. It will be a full-fledged travel show."
This will be the first-ever production under Karanvir & Teejay’s production house ‘Belvie Productions’ named are their children – Bella and Vienna. This travel web series will be shot in February and will be released shortly on Twin Baby Diaries, the official YouTube channel of twin baby girls, Bella and Vienna.
Karanvir Bohra and Teejay will be speaking about the show and unveiling the trailer at Godrej L’Affaire in Mumbai on Saturday, February 22.
